Castaño (Experiencia 60 Dias) 2004

Yecla, Valencia and Murcia, Spain60 days a bit darker in colour. Nose is a bit volatile and oxidized. Bigger, fatter and warmer than 40 with slightly dryer tannins. Lots of black cherry, licorice, plum, prune flavours and lots of peppery, resin, cherry on the finish. More extract, perhaps too dry. Winemaker Notes: Castaño has been experimenting on the vinification side with extended maceration times and are excited about using the results in future blends of medium to high end wines. All three samples sporting different maceration times (40, 60 or 100 days) were fermented at 25-26º C. There were careful pump-overs, frequently at the beginning, and less frequent after the third / fourth week. After the alcoholic fermentation they re-filled the tank with finished wine of Monastrell (just to keep it full) and followed that with another weekly pumping over regime.Tasted: 18 June 2005Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
