Yalumba The Octavius Edition IX 1998

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaLike the 1996 the '98 Octavius made with 100 per cent shiraz split 71/29 between Barossa and Eden Valley benefited from a perfect growing season. It was aged 22 months in 70 per cent new American oak and for the first time a touch of French oak. The wine has a strong muscular youthful edge with elevated tones of Christmas cake, cloves, and spicy floral fruit. This is a big powerful rich fruity red with gobs of sweet ripe fruit that will need a decade to settle down. Should be excellent.Tasted: 05 May 2005Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
