Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port 1997

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalFonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port was first produced in 1983. It's blended from wines which do not quite achieve the level of quality required for Fonseca vintage port and it is produced only in limited quantity. It spends four to six years in large wood vats of fifty pipes' (267 hectolitres) capacity prior to bottling. Look for very a peppery, black liquorice stick, black plum jam nose with some raisiny, tea notes. The style is hot, round and rich with good acidity and some light tannin. Fat smoky, licorice, peppery, spicy, dried cherry, prune, tea and liquorice flavours. Nice styling and intensity but a bit hot. Good for current consumption.Tasted: 02 November 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
