Etim Old Wines Grenache Unfiltered Selection 2001
Montsant, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainMonsant is a relatively new Spanish DO that covers the vineyards that were traditionally part of the Priorato before that DO was reshaped. The area resides in the Catalunya region in the Sierra Monsant. Falset-Marca first made wine in 1919 from the village of Falset some 130 kilometres southwest of Barcelona. Etim or 'roots' is an 85/15 blend of garnacha and cabernet sauvignon from 50-year old vines. Look for gamey, black cherry jam, licorice root, resiny, peppery, saddle leather aromas with some smoky vanilla streaks. Rich, round, dry and somewhat tannic but very youthful. Big black raspberry jam (grenache), black cherry, smoky, spicy, gamey garrigue flavours. Warm and dry on the finish with some tannins and acidity showing. Needs a year or so to soften or try with roast duck or goose.Tasted: 05 November 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $23.75 | 750ml | Specialty |
