Vinha do Monte 2000

Alentejo, Central and Southern Portugal, PortugalThe search for an inexpensive red is always more profitable when you start with a place rather than just a brand. Vinha do Monte is a wine from the Alentejo region that Sogrape produces from a mix of indigenous grapes led by aragonês and castelão all aged one year in new Portuguese oak casks and 6 to 12 months in bottle. The nose is a mix of black fruits with a spicy, resiny, smoky undercurrent. On the palate it is full bodied Euro red with firm yet soft tannins. An inexpensive rustic "hamburger red" that is hard to beat for the price.Tasted: 08 September 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
