Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant' Urbano 2000
Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyIt starts off like Valpolicella, but select bunches of Corvina grapes are dried on racks after the harvest, achieving greater concentration. After 120 days of drying the results are a huge black cherry, tobacco nose streaked with chocolate and spicy, jammy aromas. The 2000 is rich, intense and slightly sweet on entry with cherry jam, almond, chocolate, spicy vanilla flavours and a peppery, Christmas pudding finish. Long, intense and smooth it carries the normal 15 per cent alcohol. Should improve over the next 5-12 years.Tasted: 16 June 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $79.95 | 750ml | Speculative - Empson Canada |
