Lanciola Chianti Colli Fiorentini 2001

Impruneta, Florence, Tuscany, ItalyDuring the Renaissance, the estate belonged to the historic Ricci family - hence the hedgehogs appearing on some of the labels, for "ricci" is Italian for "hedgehogs." Today, it is property of Carla and Giovanni Guarnieri, flanked by son Giancarlo with his wife Elisa. The normale is 95 sangiovese with a touch of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The nose is a mix of gamey, weedy cassis with cherry and smoky chocolate. Round, soft and dry but elegant with cherry jam, gamey, chocolate, licorice flavours. Nice balance, forward open style. For current drinking.Tasted: 16 June 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
