Napa Valley, California, United StatesThe 01 merlot contains 13 per cent cabernet sauvignon all aged 20 months in French oak barrels -- 45 per cent of which are new. Look for a smoky, coffee, saddle leather, black cherry, vanilla nose with hints of black olive and herbs. Rich, round and velvety with big coffee, cherry, peppery, vanilla flavours and a smoky, celery salt finish. A bit herbaceous and alcoholic hot on the finish yet it remains attractive.
