Hoegaarden Witbier-Bier Blanche NV
BelgiumWitbiers have some sedimentation and cloudiness. This is due partly to the use of wheat (about half the grain), which produces a turbid wort, but also to the fact that witbiers are bottle conditioned or unfiltered and retain the spices added. This one has a very pale, fine nose with light malt-y, leesy, spicy, ginger, earthy floral nose with some pear and citrus. Quite dry and elegant with light bitterness and a fine, refreshing light mousse in the mouth. Balanced citrus, spicy, pear, earthy, honey yeast flavours. Not huge and rich but has finesse that makes this a perfect summer drink, especially for foods like grilled sausages or even seafood. Unusual and worth trying.Tasted: 18 May 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $11.95 | 330ml | x 6 |
