Conterno Fantino Chardonnay Bastia 2001

Montforte d'Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyConterno Fantino is a melding of skills: Claudio Conterno (vineyard manager and co-proprietor) and his friend and partner, Guido Fantino, who styles the wines. Twenty-two years after its founding in 1982 the estate vineyards total 64 acre all built around the nucleus cru Ginestra. In 1989, Guido and Claudio acquired terrain from the nearby area of Bricco Bastia, where they eventually built a state-of-the-art new winery. The Bastia Chardonnay from the Bricco Bastia cru is 100 per cent barrique-fermented and left on its lees for 15 months in new French oak. Look for honey, mineral, buttery, peach and leesy clove aromas with a touch of citrus. Lean, mineral, buttery lees, honey flavours with floral hints. Well made but very tight and bit too buttery at the moment. Wait another year. Should be good.Tasted: 04 March 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
