Mer Soleil Chardonnay 2001
Central Coast, California, United StatesI've always been a fan of Mer Soleil and the 2001 may be the best release ever. Do not let the meaningless Central Coast appellation scare you off, this is serious stuff. The Wagners have been growing chardonnay in the region since 1992 on leased land and the original 100 acres is now up to 600 acres and production a nifty 28,000 cases. Look for yeasty nectarine scented white with a fabulous yeasty creamy texture. Pears honey and smoke permeate its long and persistent finish. Delicious chardonnay that that challenges Wagner's original regional benchmarks: Byron, and Robert Talbot. The wine is made Charlie F. Wagner son of Chuck J.
