Viñedo Chadwick 1999

Puente Alto, Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileThe Viñedo Chadwick vineyard is located in Puente Alto at the south-east border of Santiago. The 25-hectare property contains the Chadwick family home, a park with century-old trees and a polo field and since October 1992 a vineyard planted to cabernet sauvignon (12 ha.), cabernet franc (2 ha.) carmenère (1 ha.). The density is 4,166 vines per hectare and the entire operation is run under guidance of viticulturist Pedro Izquierdo. The 1999 Viñedo Chadwick, the first release (1000 cases) was made with individual lots aged 18 months in new French oak and then blended three months before bottling. It is classic Puente Alto spicy blackberry, black cherry and tobacco fruit all rolled up into a very tight package of firm tannin and acidity. A little too lean, green an herbal for us but it could soften with age.Tasted: 29 December 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
