Sàgana Nero d'Avola 2001

Sicily, ItalyThey say the best néro d'Avola grapes are harvested from 15-year old, south facing, vines located in Central and Southern Sicily at the beginning of September. Look for a peppery, spicy, savoury, black cherry, licorice, almond, vanilla/cherry cola nose. Intense rich ripe fruit with smooth, slightly grainy tannins. Big black cherry jam, peppery, spicy, cola and gamey flavours with a touch of acidity. Good now but will improve over the next few years.Tasted: 12 December 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
