Chateau Maris Syrah Les Vieilles Vignes 2001

Minervois, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceThe 'home' vineyard of Comte Cathare is the 55ha Château Maris in the heart of La Livinière-Minervois. Since the late 80s vineyard management has gradually shifted towards 100 per cent biodynamic cultivation. From the oldest syrah vines on the property comes a spicy, smoky, roasted plum nose with vanilla, blackberry jam aromas streaked with barnyard and garrigue notes. Rich and round with smoky, vanilla, coffee, peppery, blackberry jam flavours and a resiny, black cherry kirsch and licorice finish. There's plenty of fruit and intensity here and it should improve over the next two to four years. Try with roasted lamb shanks and couscous.Tasted: 30 December 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
