Unity Wine Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot 2001

Each portion of the Unity red cabernet (47), merlot (45) and cabernet franc (8) aged 18 months in mostly French oak in its region of origin before the final blend is assembled in British Columbia. Look for a smoky, oaky, clove aroma with crushed leaf, earthy, rootsy aromas with some black cherry nuances. Young, raw and dry but with some elegance. Smoky, resiny, savoury, spicy vanilla flavours streaked with licorice root, olive, bell pepper and cedar flavours on the finish. Definitely needs a few years to soften the tannins and integrate the oak. More Médoc than California or Washington. Tasted: 18 November 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
