Leone Rosso Toscana 2001

Tuscany, ItalyLeone Rosso, first made in 1997, is a blend of sangiovese, merlot and canaiolo nero grapes. It's made under the Fattoria del Colle label by winemaker Donatella Cinelli Colombini. The vines sit over limestone, clay and galestro (stony soil) on a ridge some 400 metres above sea level. This is New Wave Italian elegance with cherry and vanilla and just a dusting of dry tannins for structure. Leone Rosso is aged in small French oak barrels for further refinement. Delicious and affordable given its pedigree.Tasted: 31 October 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
