Henschke Mount Edelstone Single Vineyard Shiraz 2000

Eden Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThe Mount Edelstone vineyard, meaning gemstone, is a single delineated historic vineyard planted in the 1920s on the eastern slopes of the hill of the same name. It is planted to 100% old-vine shiraz located near Keyneton high in the ranges east of the Barossa Valley. The 70-year-old fruit is dry-farmed. The colour dark cherry. The nose smoky with mineral, spicy, cherry, cassis aromas and some resiny blueberry highlights. Rich, round and concentrated with good ripeness. Very spicy, mocha, vanilla, black cherry, smoky flavours with some gamey notes. Needs a few years to round out the tannins but very drinkable now. Excellent value when compared to the Hill of Grace.Tasted: 28 October 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
