Casa de la Ermita Jumilla 2000

Jumilla, Valencia and Murcia, SpainThis new wave spicy/cardamom red with the savoury licorice and black cherry scents hails from Jumilla an area located in the Levante region in eastern Spain, northeast of the city of Alicante. Here the history has been blockbuster, high-alcohol (up to 18 percent) red wines but it's encouraging to see a new more elegant wine style. The main grape is the monastrell or mourvèdre but this wine has small amounts of merlot, tempranillo, syrah and cabernet sauvignon in it too. Look for an elegant fresh entry with fine flavour intensity and styling. The flavours are all black licorice and spice with just a touch of prunes and earth, very rich and inviting. Love the balance.Tasted: 12 August 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
