Castillo de Maluenda Garnacha Vinas Viejas 1999
Calatayud, Aragon, SpainCastillo de Maluenda 100 per cent garnacha (grenache) made from the properties oldest-yielding vines situated at heights of between 860 and 1004 metres above sea level. The grapes are hand-picked, parcel by parcel and the results are stunning. Look for gobs of black cherry fruit spiced with licorice and vanilla. It's supple, round, fleshy and fun to drink. There isn't much of this around; it definitely needs to be reordered in sensible quantities. Good hunting.
