Suavia Soave Classico Superiore Monte Carbonare 2001
Monte Carbonare, Verona, Veneto, ItalyRespected Italian exporter Neil Empson has been unearthing wine gems from his Milano-base for nearly three decades and his latest listing in Canada, Suavia Soave is a wine he places on a similar level to Soave superstar Pieropan. Unlike most Soave that contains a considerable percentage of trebbiano the Suavia is made from 100 per cent garganega. A portion is matured in oak barrels the rest in stainless steel. The nose and flavour is one of ripe, honeyed sweet fruit flecked with mineral butter. This is classic Soave built for the long run and a decade of ageing will only enhance this remarkable, unique, and totally Italian wine.
