Château Liot 1999

Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, FranceThe vineyards (Sémillon 85%, Sauvignon Blanc 10%, Muscadelle 5%) lie on a gravel/silt/alluvial topsoil and limestone subsoil. The grapes are fermented in vats and the wine is matured in oak barrels (15 per cent new) for 15 to 18 months. The wines are typically fresh and refined and display marvellous purity of fruit. They have medium-term cellaring potential but are also delicious to drink in youth. Look for a subdued mineral wet wool and crème brûlée nose with streaks of pear. Light buttery mineral pear flavours with a touch of burnt sugar and warmth. Fat easy sipper for drinking now through 2005. Good value.Tasted: 15 April 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
