Basilicata, ItalyThe finest vineyards and wines of Basilicata are in Vulture and some say the finest grape is aglianico. Hand harvest and grown at 500 metres on mostly volcanic soil it's aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 20 to 24 months. This is the first vintage for Portale and it offers you some pruny resiny peppery gamey aromas streaked with licorice... quite old style.
