Gaja Nebbiolo Sperss 1998

Marenca-Rivette, Serralunga, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyBeginning with the 1996 vintage, this wine and all the other Gaja single vineyard designates bear the Langhe Nebbiolo DOC appellation. This is essentially a Barolo with about 94% nebbiolo and 6% barbera. It has a pruny, orange rind, smoky leather, cigar nose with very peppery, spicy notes. Dry, moderately tannic and tight with a bit higher acidity the flavours are a mix of cherry, cranberry, spicy orange, cigar, and pepper. Sperss is a classic, leaner style Italian red with a tannic finish. Good but without the same concentration of the Gromis.Tasted: 02 March 2003Tasted by: Stuart TobePrices:
