Yangarra Park Merlot Appellation Series 2001

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaThis is quite a fine effort from an Oz grape that rarely shines. Coffee, herbal, mint and tobacco aromas are flecked with some cherry and pepper. The palate is round and supple with spicy, vanilla, peppery cherry flavours and a leafy, minty finish. It's a bit dry and acidic on the finish and there's still quite a bit of oak showing. Another three years should help this wine gather itself for prime time.Tasted: 18 February 2003Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
