Chateau la Bastide L'Optimée 1998
Corbières, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceL'Optimée is a new, super-premium red born in 1998 when according to Exell, "Durand's 50-year-old, low-yielding syrah vines produced a highly concentrated crop." L'Optimée is an 80/20 blend of syrah/grenache that is aged for about a year in oak -- only a few hundred cases were made. The nose is open and generous showing some licorice and vanilla. It's another big, chewy, fiery red with plenty of muscle. Exell concurs calling it, "muscular and intense with ripe fruit flavours and tinges of plums and apricots". There is adequate tannin and acidity to promote development in the bottle. Prices:BC | $19.90 | 750ml |
