Catena Alta Malbec Angelica Vineyard 1999
Mendoza, ArgentinaThe 1999 Catena Alta Malbec contains 10 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and all the grapes come off a select block of Catena's more than 60 year old Angélica vineyard. The vines destined for the Alta Malbec undergo detailed thinning aimed at leaving only select, isolated clusters. The new wine is aged for 13 months in 100% new French oak and you pick up the toasted oak notes as soon as you put your nose in the glass. Expect a mass of ripe blackberry fruit with sweet vanilla notes in the background. Its soft, round, melt in your mouth tannins will have wide appeal. There was no Catena Alta Malbec made in 1998 due to poor vintage conditions but the '99 more than makes up for the loss.Tasted: 01 March 2002Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $74.95 | 750ml | Specialty |
