California, United StatesCalifornia zinfandel was the classic barbecue wine before most labels became seriously over-priced. The exception may be the Beringer zin selling at the amazing price of $13.95. It has the clean, fruity nose we expect from California with spicy, blackberry fruit on entry and more of a sweaty barnyard character in the finish. It is both round and soft in texture with plenty of ripe, "sweet" fruit. It is a light, summer sipping red that would be perfect for Dad's famous grilled hamburgers.
