Santa Rita Floresta Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileFloresta, which loosely translates as a 'garden of flowers,' is a new series of blended wines from Santa Rita that's positioned between the high end Medalla Real labels and the super premium Casa Real. Senior winemaker Andres Ilabaca who favours the Bordeaux style makes this 67/33 merlot/cabernet sauvignon blend. Look for a richly textured red that spends eight months in new oak followed by another year of ageing in the bottle. It's a big, meaty, chewy red with a powerful (alcoholic) finish. Long, warm and spicy it's more Californian than Bordeaux but like the syrah/merlot, it has a bright future.Tasted: 01 May 2001Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $31.00 | 750ml |
