Penfolds Shiraz - Mourvèdre - Grenache Old Vine Bin 138 1997
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThis old vine blend of 34 percent grenache, 37 shiraz and 29 mourvèdre continues to benefit from the fall in demand for fortified vines, which allows Penfolds dry red winemakers to get their hands on some very old grapes. Its rich blackberry jam, pepper and spicy fruit flavours are preserved by using older (mostly six and seven years) barrels that are a mix of French and American wood. The help mature the wine without adding any overt wood to the mix leaving a lovely, supple, peppery red.Tasted: 01 March 2000Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $30.55 | 750ml |
