Masi Angelorum Recioto Classico 2009

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyRecioto, the sweet wine of the Ancient Romans (Reticum) is transformed three different ways by Masi. Angelorum is the traditional version, where corvina, rondinella and molinara, are picked in hillside sites to be laid out for drying (appassimento) on bamboo racks during the winter months. The fully raisinated fruit is then pressed, fermented, aged for one year in Slavonian oak and turned into this - a dusty, mid-sweet and earthy sweet wine, harkening raisins, dried figs, dried cherry, pecan and subtle caramel. Tannins are sticky, and the acidity moderate enough to just carry the sweetness. Pair with panettone, sharp cheese, or roasted walnuts or pecans.Tasted: 13 February 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
