BC Bud Break Watch

By: Anthony Gismondi
Live stream of a BC vineyard

Our latest project is an all-season look at 'A Year in the Life of a BC Winegrower.' We plan to release a video each quarter chronicling an array of tasks that take place every year across BC wine country that, in the end, will shape part of what will be vintage 2021.

As part of this project, we are featuring a live stream feed of a vineyard leading up to the season's first big event, bud break. Our thanks to Ezra Cipes and the entire team at Summerhill Pyramid Winery, who have agreed to work around our camera in place for the next three to four weeks.

We'd love for other growers across BC to take part by posting photos of bud break in their vineyard along with the date, grape type, its GI, using the hashtags #BCBudBreak and #BCWine. With myriad climates and latitudes, bud break will occur for weeks, and your input and photos will give our viers an idea of how diverse the British Columbia wine landscape is.

Our first video looking at late winter and spring activities features Covert Farms in Oliver, Da Silva Winery on the Naramata Bench, Summerhill in East Kelowna and Harper's Trail in Kamloops. It will be available on the GOW website by the end of April. You can follow it all on our social media platforms. Mouse over the bottom right corner of the viewing portal below to see it in its full 4K glory and to see details about the site. If you can't see it above, click here.
