Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2015 The Boswell Syrah is ageing effortlessly, and it was fun to have a look it three years down the road. The Westbank estate grown syrah is part of the winery's prestigious Anniversary Series, honouring its pioneering Okanagan ancestors. It spent 18 months in French oak that was more than adequate to stand up to its strong fruit base. Its black cherry, lashed with licorice and dried herbs, is humming along, shedding tannin and turning into a sleek Rhone style red still with plenty of life ahead of it. The vineyard block sits at the base of West Kelowna, nearest the lake. It is the perfect spot to take advantage of the late day katabatic winds that flush the heat out of the vineyard, contributing to a complex syrah capable of many years bottle age. Lamb, venison, or aged hard cheeses all work here.Tasted: 01 June 2020Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOne of Quails' Gate's prestigious Anniversary Series in honour of the family's pioneering Okanagan ancestors, the 2015 edition of The Boswell Syrah amounted to 24 barrels total. This Westbank estate grown syrah spent 18 months in French oak, required to support the ripe intensity of the fruit. Dense black cherry is perfumed with herbs, violets, wild anise, thorns, fried sage and alluring lavender potpourri to a medicinal cassis and very bitter black coffee finish. Tannins are bracketed with grippy, persistently fine wood spicing, afforded from the barrel. This is very much in youth, and will benefit from time in a decanter and pairing with Salt Spring lamb now.Tasted: 19 November 2017Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Boswell is part of the Quails’ Gate Collector Series, and in 2015 you might want to consider collecting a few bottles. The Boswell label honours the family's grandparents and is made in limited quantities; only 24 barrels were made this vintage. The nose is an enticing mix of floral, lavender and violets, with that cool climate white pepper and spice that keeps the fruit in check but never buries it. The palate is juicy and dry with silky/leathery tannins throughout the finish and the oak is more seamless this year.
