Tinhorn Creek Oldfield Reserve Syrah 2020
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2020 is widely lauded as a top vintage thanks to a warm and dry September that aided all the later ripening fruits to reach phenolic maturity. The winemaking is simple: hand-harvested fruit is fermented in stainless utilizing natural yeast, and is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. The attack is fresh and juicy, mixing black plums and floral on the nose with more dry plummy fruit and spice, with polished tannins. The finish lingers a bit, offering subtle licorice and a touch of brown spice. This is one of the first big reds I have encountered under winemaker Leandro Nosal (Checkmate and Red Barn) with some guidance from Ross Wise (Black Hills and Chief of Peller Winemaking in the West), and I like the direction.Tasted: 05 May 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:| BC | $40.00 | 750ml | winery direct, private retail, restaurants |
