Patrick Javillier Cuvée Oligocène 2020

Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FranceKnown as one of the best growers in Meursault, the thoughtful Patrick Javillier has now retired, but the estate is in the very good hands of his daughter Marion and son-in-law Pierre-Emmanuel. Cuvée Oligocène comes off the lieu-dit Pellans, on the Puligny side of Meursault, with 40 year old vines rooted in brown limestone. Profound and flinty at first, this savoury wine courses with energy. After some air time the flintiness moves more into lightly toasted wood, which remains on the lingering finish. Subtle white flowers, green apple, lightly smoked crushed stone, and lemon pith flood the medium bodied palate. Punching quite a bit beyond its weight as a humble Bourgogne Côte d'Or, this is more interesting than many Meursault I've tried of late.Tasted: 05 May 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
