Marlborough, South Island, New ZealandA New World icon, Cloudy Bay is the wine that set the entire New Zealand wine industry in motion in 1985. Marlborough was an unknown entity back then, but the showy lemon-green wine with a pungent nose shocked the international wine world. In 2022 it had a new package but the same bright, fresh green apple, grapefruit, and gooseberry dusted with fresh herbs. On the palate, intense flavours of kiwi and nectarine, white pepper, and passionfruit fuel a lingering, mineral finish. It remains another notch up the scale and a true icon of the region. Technically it is made from over 90 parcels of Wairau Valley fruit, with a small amount fermented in used barrels to add a touch of softer textures to the mix.
