Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico Organic 2020

Tuscany, ItalyThe Ricasoli-Firidolfi family is part of the Chianti Classico fabric from Baron Bettino Ricasoli, who created the original formula for the Chianti Classico's blend of grapes in 1872, and even further back when a family member named Geremia was involved in many a battle between warring families on the property in the mid-1100s The rocca of Montegrossi was a strategic post, high up on a plateau, providing shelter for travelling dignitaries. Today the Rocca di Montegrossi estate is located in Monti in Chianti, part of Gaiole in Chianti. The high-altitude plateau, with its stony, calcareous soils is known for some of the more elegant and harmonious Chianti Classico wines in the DOCG. The 2020 mix is 91% sangiovese, 7% canaiolo, and 2% colorino, and it jumps from the glass and the youthful earthy, peppery, black cherry spills onto the palate. The finish shows some tannin and dryness, but nothing that won't be resolved down the road with time in the bottle. Technically the grapes are hand-harvested, fermented on indigenous yeasts in lined cement tanks, and aged for 11 months in a mix of traditional French Allier oak vats, and unlined cement tanks. I suggest mushroom pasta; the winery likes it with porcini risotto. Either would be delicious.Tasted: 14 March 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
