Mouton Cadet Heritage Rouge 2018

Bordeaux, FranceThe Heritage Mouton Cadet is meant to increase its intensity and is currently a 95/5 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Winemaker Jerome Aquirre told me they are upping the cabernet sauvignon content to closer to thirty percent in the coming vintages to add some extra power to the wine. 2018 is already soft and round, very drinkable, and it is stuffed with fruity, fragrant black fruit streaked with a touch of espresso and cedar in a more classic Bordeaux nose. The merlot is sourced from the nearby Côte de Castillon appellation, and it presents with ripe, spicy blackberry, cassis mixed with roasted coffee bean, cedar, and a touch of cinnamon. The tannins are firm but soft, and add support without dryness. Prime rib is the match, but lamb chops or a classic steak frites with peppercorn sauce would be just fine. Well done, and a clear step up. Great value.Tasted: 20 March 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
