Colomé Malbec Estate 2020

Salta, North, ArgentinaColomé stakes claim to work the highest vineyards in the world, from 1700 to 3111 metres above sea level, on four sites in the Upper Calchaquí Valley of Salta. Higher altitudes mean much more sun, much less UV protection, thicker-skinned grapes, and a darker wine with robust flavours and fresh acidity. The complexity comes from site variations. The four estate vineyards are blended, combining Colomé Vineyard (60%) that surrounds the winery at 2300 metres; El Arenal vineyard (25%) at 2600 metres; La Brava Vineyard (5%) at 1700 metres; and Altura Máxima vineyard (10%) at 3111 metres. All the fruit is aged in older French oak for 15 months. The wine is a wild stony mix of black and blue berries that seamlessly combine in a savoury, well-balanced red with the rare combination of power and elegance. Here’s to altitude.
