Camille Cayran La Grande Reserve Cairanne 2020

Cairanne, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceThe Cave de Cairanne Co-Op began in 1929 when seven wine growers in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, just north of cru villages Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras, banded together to bottle their wines. Cairanne was recently elevated to cru status in the Rhone, thanks no doubt to the efforts of this collaborative. Over the last 93 years, this co-op has grown to 65 growers, producing organic, minimalist wines at fair prices. This blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre comes off stony limestone and clay slopes. It was aged in concrete for ten months, with a small amount of SO2 at the bottling. Very perfumed, with soft plum, fragrant black raspberry, and ripe strawberry across an expansive, gilded palate framed with softly cushioned tannins threaded with pink peppercorn. A fresh stony acidity can lift this big red through a saline finish.Tasted: 10 March 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
