East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 Rosé is the first that Katie Truscott and Ben Bryant, the new heads of 1 Mill Road, have seen from start to finish. The pinot noir comes off East Kelowna Slopes, planted to 5 clones of pinot noir on stony Rutland soils. The whole bunch pressed grapes were fermented cool in stainless, with 18% fermented in French oak with regular bâtonnage over three months prior to blending. Pouring a blush peach hue, this carries gentle wild strawberries and mandarin along a silken core, with a tart rhubarb acidity to carry, and very subtle spices to season.
