Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Four Shadows Zweigelt, all two acres, was planted in 1999. It took two decades to get around to dropping the yields and making the wine a serious club selection, and the difference is night and day. The deep cherry purple red is fresh and floral, aided by a short eight months of aging in older, primarily neutral oak. The palate mixes pomegranate, blueberry, raspberry, a tart undercurrent, and some firmness in the back end.
