Companhia de Vinhos dos Profetas e Villões Tinta Negra dos Villões 2021

Madeira, PortugalThis must be the longest winery name in the world (and up there with the most confusing for non-Portuguese speakers). Widely regarded as one of the most dynamic winemakers in Portugal, António Maçanita crafts wines from the Azores archipelago to Alentejo and Porto Santo, a small island off Madeira. This latest project was created with his friend of 15 years, Nuno Faria, a Madeiran and restaurateur. The adventuresome duo have joined forces to explore the potential of these magical islands. This Tinta Negra (also known as Saborinho in the Azores and Molar in Colares) is planted very close to the sea on the rainy island of Madeira, and was 30% whole bunch (sandwiched between crushed layers), natively fermented with 40 days of skin contact, and aged eight months in French barrels. This lighter red (11.5%) matches its lighter crimson hue and crunchy red currant, rhubarb, and crushed red florals. Tannins are fine and sticky, while the acidity is marine fresh, with lashes of salinity through the snappy finish. Adventuresome. 7398 bottles.Tasted: 28 February 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
