Vérité La Joie 2019

Sonoma County, California, United StatesMany years ago, I walked the early Verite vineyard blocks with winegrower Pierre Seillan, whose take on complexity was simple. “Every hillside, every elevation and every aspect offers us a different micro cru. The pure expression of these unique sites has, from the beginning, defined our winemaking philosophy.” It makes it easy to understand the birth of the Verite trilogy: La Joie, La Muse, and La Desire, each exploring a different grape while reflecting its Sonoma origins. In 2019 a vintage began with a healthy water supply in the soil from a warm winter of storms. Budbreak was early in what would be a warm year, complete with some heat spikes. The cabernet sauvignon dominates La Joie and breaks out as 84% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot, 5% cabernet franc, and 4% petit verdot. Top quality Sonoma cabernet always has a charming, savoury/umami character that invites. In the hands of Seillan and company, it is front and centre in La Joie. Blackcurrant and black plum return on the palate with a dusting of dried herbs, baking spice, and chocolate. A premier cru style wine rich in power and swaddled in silky textures, it is perfectly balanced and will age effortlessly well past 2035.Tasted: 22 January 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
