Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder 2018

Mount Veeder, Napa Valley, California, United StatesLokoya produces four cabernet sauvignons from four of Napa Valley’s most celebrated mountain appellations. The wines are entirely cabernet sauvignon, fermented on native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Mount Veeder label comers off the eastern ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains at the northern end of the Mount Veeder appellation. The fruit is grown at 1,800 feet of elevation, and winemaker Chris Carpenter chooses a selection of blocks to put together the Mount Veeder label. The steep, mountainous terrain with its spare volcanic soil produces tiny bunches of concentrated dark fruit led by blackberries and blueberries. Floral and surprisingly inviting on the nose Lokoya grabs you before its structure and tannins fill the back palate, leaving you to wonder how great this wine will be 10-20 or even 30 years from now. 2018 is full of aromatics, power, layers of flavours, and a welcome level of minerality throughout the finish. Cabernet collectors can expect this to have a long future in bottles. The yields are a modest two tons per acre, and it spends 22 months in 94 percent new French oak. Serious and seriously good.Tasted: 10 January 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
