Jolie Laide Mère Pinot Gris 2021

California, United StatesJolie-Laide is a one-person operation based in a Sebastopol winery where winemaker Scott Schultz makes only 500 cases a year under his label. The name Jolie-Laide translates loosely to Pretty-Ugly, a French endearment term to describe something unconventionally beautiful. This year's Pinot Gris blends fruit from Vista Verde vineyard and Glen Oaks vineyard, the former, new site with 333m elevation and gravelly loams/limestone in San Benito County, near the Pacific ocean. The last vineyard has been a mainstay for Jolie Laide, situated in Sonoma's deep rocky soils. The blend was native fermented and aged in stainless and neutral puncheons before aging in neutral barrique. Deeply hued, this gris is gently expansive, with soft pear, melon, and light spicing running the length of the medium-slight palate. Moderate freshness feels strange for Cali but makes this a friendly, easy pour for enjoying now.Tasted: 14 January 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
