Il Fauno di Arcanum 2020

Tuscany, ItalyThe 1011 hectare Tenuta di Arceno estate rises 404 metres above sea level to 809 metres. The property has produced wines for nearly 3000 years, situated between Florence and Siena. According to Roman mythology, an ancient Roman statue, Il Fauno, was installed in the middle of the property to protect the estate from intruders. Today the estate produces high quality Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva of Sangiovese, but its IGT wines seem particularly suited to cabernet franc and merlot. Il Fauno is a Bordeaux-style blend from the heart of Tuscany mixing 41/34/20/5/ merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. The nose is a riot of savoury licorice and black cherries. The attack is rich, robust, and full-bodied, pitching black plums, balsamic, cedar, and more licorice over a peppery, menthol, toasted oak finish. There are high hopes for the 2020 vintage, and there is no rush to drink this wine. You could effortlessly age it a decade. However, should you decide to drink it now, wild boar, or a classic steak Florentine, would be a good match.Tasted: 13 January 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
