Cardinale 2019

Napa Valley, California, United States2019 has some standout primary fruit characters, but the complexity and interest come from the accents or spicing, namely the floral, cedar, and toasted espresso bean and bread notes. The vintage has a robust, savoury edge, which pulls all this mountain madness together. Winemaker Chris Carpenter assembled this Napa Valley red using 91% cabernet sauvignon and 9% merlot aged 21 months in 100% French oak, 81% new. I love the way this wine comes at you in waves, each one different in length and intensity. Cardinale is far more refined at this stage, less boisterous and more stylish, something you can't say about many Napa cabernets. The balanced of power and elegance is perfect, as are the rich black/blue fruits, fresh acidity, and savoury umami underside. Long, silky and complex, this is one to age for decades if you have the time and the money.Tasted: 10 January 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
