Anakota Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana Vineyard El. 950 Feet 2019

Knights Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesSince 2001, Anakota has made two single vineyards, single variety, single appellation estate cabs: Helena, Dakota; and Helena, Montana. Helena Dakota is a 12.4-acre block of vines sited below Mount St. Helena’s two highest peaks at 750 feet elevation. It is an ancient volcanic zone with reddish-brown, gravel/silt loam soils intermingled with volcanic rock well suited to the main Bordeaux grapes. This year Helena Montana Vineyard sits at 950 feet of elevation, and while the differences are subtle, Montana is the more significant, more mountain red. In 2019 a wet winter and warm growing season combined to make giant wines at Anakota. Luckily Frenchman and winemaker Pierre Seillan has become quite a genius at taming the California sunshine in his reds, giving them a sense of balance and purpose. Powerful and complex, Montana pitches rich, ripe red and black fruits from black raspberries to blueberries mixed with dried herbs, spiced clove, and firm, dense tannins. This is one for the cellars, and it could effortlessly age 20 years. Described as a mystery to many, “set along the flanks and foothills of Mount St. Helena and the Mayacamas Mountains, this rustic sanctuary possesses the sparse volcanic soils and ideal climate needed to produce elegant, profound and age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignons."Tasted: 09 January 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
