Orofino Dourado 2020

Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOur first look at Dourado, a wine Orofino says is a reserve-tier Bordeaux-style red. It is a Cawston blend of the first order from the Similkameen Valley containing merlot from Cawston Flats and Hendsbee Vineyard on the Cawston Bench; cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon from the sun-baked Cawston bench; plus one barrel of cabernet sauvignon from the stony Cawston Bench. The blend is 50/33/17 merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc, and 2020, this first release for club members only, is a winner. The texture/tannins are silky smooth, suggesting a balance that will serve the wine well over the next decade and beyond. The nose is red fruit and mineral, the palate a bloody, stony, earthy wild black fruit affair with a long, long aftertaste. Hold and be patient, this will be a terrific bottle.Tasted: 07 December 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
