Collavini Pignolo 2012

Friuli-Venezia Giulia, ItalyCollavini began in 1896 under founder Eugenio Collavini. His grandson, Manlio, is known as 'the lord of ribolla, for his work on the grape. The winery is now in the hands of Manlio and his sons Giovanni and Luigi. They are now centred in Corni di Rosazzo, with 170 hectares of vineyards in Collio, on the Slovenian border, and Colli Orientali, at altitude. This pignolo uses dried grapes, concentrated for 20 days on drying racks before a three-week fermentation. It then aged in small oak casts for five years, followed by two more years in a bottle before release. The oversize, massive, hefty bottle reveals an earthy, rustic, plushly fruited, full-bodied red with a core of sweetness wrapped with gritty, ample tannins. Mint and pepper season and the finish dries out quickly, encouraging drinking with a hearty winter stew.Tasted: 09 December 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
